Fathers Matter
ABOUT

With deep compassion, I found my purpose in supporting others—especially fathers—whether in poverty or the war-torn streets of Iraq. This calling has never left me, and I remain committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.
I'm J. Dontaé Roberts
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Clinical Researcher, Professor, and Doctor. For many years, I have worked with disadvantaged adults, including the homeless, fathers, persons affected by diseases, and Veterans.
I obtained my Ph.D. from the UNC-Greensboro and NC A&T joint program (2024). I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at NC A&T on the North Carolina Translational Clinicial Science (NCTraCS) project, where they examine barriers to translational research in minoritized populations, and at UNC Greensboro as a Program Coordinator in the Center for Housing and Community Studies (CHCS). My research focuses on systemic racism, health disparities, and race-based traumatic stress, particularly concerning African American men and fathers. Using mixed methods and mobile health technologies, I explore the impacts of discrimination on mental health and family dynamics. Motivated by a commitment to equitable healthcare, I integrate social work, public health, and epigenetics to develop culturally responsive interventions that foster resilience and improve health outcomes in underserved communities.

My highest and most important achievement is being a father.

Services
I serve our community in a variety of ways
Clinical Supervision
I supervise LCSWA, LCASA, psychology, and counseling practitioners. We also support, consult, and oversee counselors' cases.
We help to refine goals and outcomes, select interventions and supports, coordinate care, and track and adjust interventions.

I would love to support you!

Consultations & Research
I've partnered with universities and non-profit agencies to address the intersection of psychological trauma, fatherhood, epigenetics, and racial discrimination.

I provide research data, reports, ideas, and best practices when African-American fathers are involved in or impacted by the client's programs or research.
Public Speaking
We would love to speak at your organization or university.

For years, we have appeared as guest speakers in classrooms, department meetings, in front of nonprofit leaders, and more.

We love to give perspective around the unique landscape and propositions African-American men face as fathers and how that affects child outcomes.
Grant Writing
I can provide grant writing services for your nonprofit, for-profit organizations, and government agencies. I have received funding from the Cone Health Foundation (non-profit), Beuarua Justice Assistance (Federal Government), and Guilford County Sheriff Department (State/Local Government).
